Guitarists are always looking for more guitar related toys. So whether it’s a birthday, christmas time, or an anniversary, and you’re wondering what to buy for a guitar playing friend, here are some ideas.
Tuition
For a beginner guitarist, some guitar instruction software, whether it’s Jamorama or some other program, can be a great way to kickstart a guitarist’s playing. For people who have been playing longer, something like a tablature book of their favourite album might be a good idea. There are also some great books on mindset and headspace ideas, such as The Inner Game of Music by Barry Green.
Picks and Strings
These are a great gift idea for any guitarist, because strings and picks wear out through use, meaning that guitarists always need to replace them periodically. Picks come in different materials, such as Celluloid, Nylon, Tortex, Deltex, Ultex, Acetal, Ultem, Lexan, Steel, and even Stone. They also come in different thicknesses and shapes. It’s a good idea to buy picks similar to the ones they prefer to use already. Strings come in different materials, usually a nickel/steel blend but occasionally out of pure steel. Guitar strings also come in different gauges – the guage refers to the diameter of the string. Putting a new gauge of strings on a guitar requires a new setup for that guitar, so be sure to get the same gauge that they use already. Classical guitars use nylon strings. Some strings are coated, making them last much longer.
Guitar Paraphenalia
Guitar related clothing and personal accessories can make a great gift idea. Big guitar companies like Fender, Gibson and PRS often don’t just make guitar gear, but t-shirts and hats and so on as well. You can also buy collectible guitar picks as used by famous guitarists. There are even personal accessories like guitar earrings, pendants and cufflinks.
These are just a few ideas, there is a lot of stuff out there! Best of luck with your search for the perfect gift.
