The pop/R&B song titled Family Portrait is an unofficial divorce national anthem for all those young children out there who have suffered at the hand of divorce through their warring parents. Pink Family Portrait has managed to get and keep a very strong following of many faithful millions of people. This is solely because many can personally relate to the painful issue of divorce. In addition, how it occurs in families from all different backgrounds. Divorce affects each of us in its own way and sometimes the hurt is something that never goes away.
The artist Pink wrote family Portrait along with Scott Storch for her second album named Missundaztood in 2001. Pink Family Portrait is her own personal experience with the traumas of divorce as a young child. The conflict she went through is very visible in the lyrics of this popular song that was released as the fourth and last single on the album that came out in December of 2002. Family Portrait chronicles the very real conflict of divorce. How it causes the destruction of a family through a little girl’s eyes. This hit song managed to make it to number twenty on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and as number eleven on the UK Singles Chart as well.
Family Portrait was a big success in the eyes of the music world. Nonetheless, it was not in the eyes of Pink’s family, especially with her mother who the singer referred to as being a “lunatic” in one of her other songs. Surely, it was not a good way to make family members aware of big family problems. However, Pink has gotten letters from many parents thanking her for the creation of the song. Apparently, Family Portrait was something much more than a song; it was a true inspiration for youngsters trying to deal with divorce in their own lives.
